WHAT IS THE GREAT PACIFIC GARBAGE PATCH?
The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is the largest of the five offshore plastics
accumulation zones in the worlds oceans. It's located in the North Pacific Ocean
between Hawaii and California. It has been estimated that the surface area
measures around 1.6 million square kilometers which is 3x the size of France.
It is estimated that a staggering amount of plastic equal to a weight of 1.15 to 2.41
million metric tonnes is entering the ocean through rivers all over the world. Its
important to understand that plastic is less dense than water, meaning that it will
not sink once it encounters the sea.
80,000 tonnes of plastic float in the Great Pacific Ocean Equivalent to 500
jumbo jets. After scientists sampled the area they discovered more than 1.8
trillion pieces of plastic.
IMPACT ON WILDLIFE
Most animals and sea life confuse plastic for food and therefore are unaware of the
threat and danger it poses. As a result they suffer devastating
consequences of entanglement, malnutrition, health, stress and existence.
Furthermore, its not only the animal kingdom and environment suffering the affects
of plastic its humans too. The plastic poses a threat not only to our marine life but
to all living organisms in the world including humans. Once the plastic enters the
marine food web, there is a good chance that it will contaminate the human food
chain as well.
WHY YOU SHOULD BE CONCERNED FOR YOU HEALTH?
Through a process called bioaccumulation, chemicals in plastics will enter the
body of the animal feeding on the plastic, and as the feeder becomes prey, the
chemicals will pass to the predator - making their way up the food web that
includes humans. These chemicals that affected the plastic feeders could then be
present within humans as well.
HOW HOME DEMOLITIONS IS TAKING PART IN MAKING SURE
WASTE,CHEMICALS AND PLASTIC DON”T END UP IN OUR OCEANS?
We are urging everybody to take this as a serious health and environmental concern
for our ecosystem and world. Home Demolitions take great pride knowing that we
recycle up to 95% off the houses we demolish. Furthermore, our team do a superb
job to ensure that each site is thoroughly cleaned up afterwards.
In doing so we are protecting the environment, animals and the world we live in.
HOW CAN YOU HELP KEEP OUR OCEANS AND WORLD CLEAN?
Everyone no matter who you are can do they're part by recycling they're
rubbish. Using less plastic products and making sure that no rubbish or toxins
make their way into rivers, lassoes and oceans.
We should always remember that it's not just our world but their world to.
